Tom began his musical career playing in bands as a teenager around the Sheffield and South Yorkshire area. He became fascinated with engineering and production whilst recording demos for many local bands and went on to complete a degree in Music Technology at Staffordshire University, graduating with First Class Honours.
After moving to London and working odd jobs at various London recording studios, he found a home as an assistant engineer at Air-Edel Recording Studios in central London, where he worked for twelve years, progressing to engineer and finally to Studio Manager.
He worked as an assistant engineer and Pro Tools operator for many A-List composers such as John Powell, Dario Marianelli, and Javier Navaretti, and as an engineer for the likes of Patrick Doyle and Howard Shore.
He also worked with household names Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Biffy Clyro, Graham Coxon and Michael Kiwanuka and engineered for Katy Perry, Gregory Porter and Vula Melinga, as well as for the major labels Universal, Warner and Sony.
Early work as a music editor include Sky Atlantic’s Yonderland, and commercial track placement edits for Channel 4’s Fresh Meat and The End of the F***ing World. After going freelance in 2020 he has been music editor on shows for ITV, Sky, Disney and AMC, including the highly successful Funny Woman starring Gemma Arterton and the upcoming sci-fi adventure Nautilus scored by Nainita Desai.
Tom works in both Pro Tools and Logic and has excellent knowledge of RX and Melodyne. His many years working in recording studios give him a broad knowledge of all aspects of score production, from initial temp music, through the writing and revision stages, to scoring, mixing and finally dub and delivery.
