Ian grew up in rural Wisconsin and was obsessed with music since childhood. He spent all his time listening to every genre of music and wore out his cassettes until he knew every lyric and guitar riff. He played violin or keyboard in any band or ensemble he could find, especially orchestras. While attending Peabody Conservatory to study classical composition with Dr. Chen Yi, he also loved spending time in recording studios and learning to produce music. Ian moved to Los Angeles to build a creative community and develop his skills and found he could combine his love of classical music with his love of producing by composing film scores.
Ian’s career has spanned writing music for films including Pirates of the Caribbean and Miami Vice, scoring independent films and documentaries, and writing and producing original songs, including his most current project, which will feature a song he has written and produced with the Chinese heavy metal band Voodoo Kungfu for an upcoming animated feature film.
Aside from music, Ian and his wife Joanna write scripts together, and recently were featured by The Black List for their debut script “Humanity Inc.”
Ian loves composing music and focuses on heartfelt, genuine projects where he feels he can bring the most depth and understanding to the audience. Ian and Joanna live in Los Angeles near the beach.
