100 PRELUDI  is a critically acclaimed drama directed by Alessandra Pescetta, which has garnered numerous awards at festivals worldwide. The film features Erica Piccotti in the role of Mara, a young Albanian cellist who relocates to Italy with aspirations of achieving musical excellence. Upon enrolling at a prestigious music conservatory, Mara finds herself immersed in a fiercely competitive environment. She chooses to study under a renowned yet demanding instructor, and her dedication leads her to join a string quartet. However, the relationship with her teacher becomes increasingly destructive, pushing Mara to the edge.

Faced with personal loss, Mara isolates herself, embarking on a gruelling regimen to validate her perceived inadequacies. This path of extreme minimalism and self-imposed constraints threatens her very sense of well-being. During this turbulent period, she discovers an exceptional skill—an ability to make nature and objects resonate with her cello, as though she is creating otherworldly orchestrations drawn from the environment around her.

The film’s score, co-written by Lisa Gerrard and Lef, is a vital component of this emotional journey. Gerrard’s distinctive vocals, haunting and evocative, serve as the heart of the composition, mirroring the film’s themes of isolation, loss, and transformation. Her voice creates a profound emotional resonance, drawing the audience deeper into Mara’s world.

Lef’s music blends classical and orchestral traditions with modern experimental influences, weaving a complex sonic fabric that complements the emotional arc of the story. The score evolves alongside Mara, reflecting her internal metamorphosis as she navigates the complexities of her identity and artistic expression. By combining the old and the new, Lef creates a sound that transcends genre and cultural boundaries, crafting an immersive listening experience that stays with the audience long after the film ends.
