‘A United Kingdom’ and ‘Denial’ premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival

‘A United Kingdom’ is a powerful testament to the defiant and enduring love story of Seretse Khama, King of Bechuanaland (modern Botswana) played by David Oyelowo, and Ruth Williams played by Rosamund Pike, the London office worker he married in 1948. Their relationship faced fierce opposition from their families and the government of the time. Director Amma Asante follows her previous film ‘Belle’, which was also music-supervised by Air-Edel, with another elegant, impassioned drama that also reveals a painful episode in the history of British race relations and imperial politics. This film celebrates the triumph of love and intelligence over intolerance and oppression.”

Patrick Doyle composed the score, and Andy Glen was the music editor. Maggie Rodford was the music supervisor, assisted by Emily Appleton-Holley, and Nick Taylor was the co-score mixer.

The production has received many ★★★★ reviews.  “Terrific warmth and idealism – and irresistible storytelling relish – director Amma Asante gives us a romantic true story from our dowdy postwar past” ★★★★ The Guardian, “Elegant tale” BBC Culture, “A United Kingdom is gorgeous to look at, so intricately designed and really rather enthralling…highlights the wonder and talent of its amazing cast.” The Hollywood News

The film is released in the UK on the 25th November.

‘Denial’ recounts the sensational lawsuit for libel brought by English historical author and Holocaust denier David Irving against American academic Deborah E. Lipstadt and her publisher Penguin Books. Her influential work, now retitled ‘Denial: Holocaust History on Trial’, is sensitively dramatized by director Mick Jackson and screenwriter David Hare. The production stars Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz and Timothy Spall. Howard Shore composed the music for the production and Air-Edel’s Maggie Rodford was the music supervisor.

“Rachel Weisz is excellent, furiously intense…Timothy Spall gives another remarkable performance as Irving, his face lined, pouchy and drawn but still maintaining a haughty defiance against the world.” ★★★★ London Evening Standard, ” The audience at the film’s premiere in Toronto cheered” The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is released in the USA on the 30th September.
