Terry Davies
Terry Davies is an Olivier Award winning and BAFTA-nominated composer, musical director, conductor, orchestrator, and arranger for film, television, and theatre.

Highlights of Terry’s original works include ‘Play Without Words’ and ‘The Car Man’ for Matthew Bourne and signwriting for ‘Tipping the Velvet’, for which he received a BAFTA nomination. He has conducted the original music for numerous television dramas and documentaries including Stephen Poliakoff’s ‘Friends and Crocodiles’, ‘Gideon’s Daughter’, ‘The Lost Prince’ (Primetime Emmy Award: Outstanding mini-series), ‘Perfect Strangers’, and ‘Shooting the Past’.
Terry has worked extensively as an on-set musical director and vocal coach, including on the feature films ‘My Week with Marilyn’ and ‘The Nutcracker in 3D’. In 2016 Terry worked as an on-set music director on Stephen Frears’ feature film ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’, starring Meryl Streep. In the recording studio, Terry has conducted and orchestrated the music for around 70 feature films, amongst these are ‘Unwelcome’, ‘Bank of Dave’, ‘Peterloo’, ‘The Children Act’, ‘Youth’, ‘Mr. Turner’, ‘Jadoo’, ‘W.E’., ‘The King’s Speech’, ‘The Nutcracker in 3D’, ‘Another Year’, and ‘The Illusionist’.
Terry conducts the live performances of award-winning Magic Light animated films, live with orchestra.
Highlights of the collection include ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’, ‘Room on a Broom’, ‘Stick Man’ and ‘The Highway Rat’. The first performances were at The Sage, Gateshead in December 2013 with the Northern Sinfonia, and Terry has since conducted performances around the UK and internationally, at venues including the Royal Festival Hall, National Concert Hall in Dublin, and ABS Theatre Aotea Centre in Auckland.
Terry has been working with choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne for 18 years and is an associate artist of Matthew’s company New Adventures, composing six of Matthew’s dance scores: ‘The Midnight Bell’, ‘The Red Shoes’, ‘Lord of the Flies’ (Manchester Theatre Awards Nominee), ‘The Car Man’ (Evening Standard Award for Best Musical), ‘Play Without Words’ (New York’s Drama Desk Awards – Best Music nomination), ‘Edward Scissorhands’ (New York Drama Desk Award: Unique Theatrical Experience) and ‘Dorian Gray’. He received an Olivier Award for ‘Play Without Words’.
Terry has composed for a large number of Shakespeare productions at the RSC and Regent’s Park’s Open Air Theatre. He also wrote songs for the RSC’s production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. He has written two musicals: ‘The Birds’, commissioned by the Istanbul City Theatre, which ran for four years, and ‘Kes! The Musical’ for the Octagon Theatre, Bolton, and revived at York’s Theatre Royal.
